Dr. Shivakumar Raman is the John A. Myers Professor in Engineering and the
David Ross Boyd Professor at the University of Oklahoma (OU) where his teaching and research has spanned the manufacturing engineering spectrum touching on such diverse topics as machining tribology, metrology of products and processes, reverse engineering and advanced materials processing to the design and integration of lean industrial systems and processes. He is
an elected Fellow of three engineering societies: American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), and the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE). He is a recipient of 25 awards and honors, including the
IIE Outstanding Young Industrial Engineer, SME Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer and the RTAM/SME Dick Aubin Distinguished Paper Awards.
He has served on 7 editorial boards and has organized several conferences.
He is the PI/PD for the Economic Development Generating Excellence (EDGE) grant awarded by the state of Oklahoma to fuel research, and technology commercialization in shape engineering and advanced manufacturing (SEAM) for Aerospace MRO. From federal sources, he has received 12 grants from NSF, 8 grants from Tinker AFB/US Air Force, 3 contracts from DOT-FAA and one grant from NASA. He has authored 175 technical manuscripts to include 65 journal articles, 67 proceedings papers and 8 book chapters. He has obtained 42 grants totaling $10 Million at OU, and financially supported over 150 graduate and undergraduate students on these grants. He has mentored and supervised about 50 graduate theses and dissertations and guided 25 Senior Capstone projects at industries to include Seagate, General Motors, ATC Drive Train, Gulfstream Aerospace and Electric Submersible Pumps.
